The oldest and one of very unique handicraft in Slovenia is making of wooden items. The first written records of wooden goods are dated in 14th century.
The close relationship of the people with nature, the wealth of forests and inventiveness of the locals, has contributed to the emergence and development of crafts as we know today.
Homeland of wooden ware is Sodražica with surrounding villages, and partly also the villages around Ribnica, Velike Lašče, Dobrepolje and Bloško polje.
After more than 500 years, the tradition of producing and selling wooden products has continued to the present day.
